A residual effect from a primary loss, secondary losses are usually non-death related, such as loss of stability, financial independence, purpose, and support systems (to name a few). These secondary losses often go unrecognized with their significance overlooked, leaving people to at times feel ashamed, alone, invalidated, and alienated. This interactive session will explain the domino effects that occur after a primary loss. Participants to this session will learn how secondary losses are compounded to add to a griever’s overwhelming primary loss, in addition to learning about how they can better support grievers, equipped with an understanding of the intricacies of secondary losses.
