Description: Moving from theory to practice is a common struggle in the implementation of trans inclusivity. While we grow our understanding of trans identity, that doesn’t necessarily improve our confidence or competence in supporting trans and gender diverse service users. This session will focus on practice-based learning and problem solving, intended to help participants bring concepts of inclusion to life in practical work-related contexts. Learning Objectives: • Build skills to intervene and address instances of homophobia, transphobia and other forms of oppression or discrimination. • Expand problem-solving skills with a lens to 2SLGBTQ+ and trans inclusion, to enable nimble application of core values to a range of different situations.

Learning Objectives: • Understand the unique context of GBV targeting 2SLGBTQ+ people, and how GBV impacts 2SLGBTQ+ people. • Build concrete skills, including bystander intervention and safety planning, to support 2SLGBTQ+ people impacted by GBV.

A residual effect from a primary loss, secondary losses are usually non-death related, such as loss of stability, financial independence, purpose, and support systems (to name a few). These secondary losses often go unrecognized with their significance overlooked, leaving people to at times feel ashamed, alone, invalidated, and alienated. This interactive session will explain the domino effects that occur after a primary loss. Participants to this session will learn how secondary losses are compounded to add to a griever’s overwhelming primary loss, in addition to learning about how they can better support grievers, equipped with an understanding of the intricacies of secondary losses.

Research shows that effective and frequent debriefing opportunities significantly reduces the risk of secondary traumatic stress symptoms for professionals working in trauma-exposed environments. Naturally, helping professionals want to talk about the difficult things they see and hear, however, sometimes instead of effectively debriefing, these conversations seem more like venting and offloading. With a few simple techniques, helpers can transform these conversations into helpful dialogue for processing and reflecting on trauma exposure while reducing the risk of transferring secondary trauma onto others. OBJECTIVES: • Understand the signs of vicarious trauma and secondary traumatic stress • Introduce the 4 Low Impact Debriefing communication guidelines • Identify distinct purposes of effective debriefing • Explore strategies for reducing the risk of vicarious trauma
