This 3-hour interactive workshop helps reduce the fear and stigma around talking about suicide. Together, we explore how to recognize signs of struggle, ask direct but compassionate questions, and create space for open, non-judgmental conversations. Participants will also learn how to support safety planning by connecting individuals to appropriate community resources. You will leave feeling more comfortable, confident, and prepared to talk about suicide and help keep others safe.

This program is for people using this tool in their agencies: The Service Prioritization Decision Assistance Tool (SPDAT) is an evidence-informed approach to assessing an individual’s or family’s acuity. This tool prioritizes; across multiple components, who to serve next and why - while identifying areas in the person/family’s life where support is most likely needed in order to avoid housing instability. SPDAT uses 15 dimensions to determine an acuity score that helps to inform who would benefit most from Housing First; Rapid Re-housing & who could end their own homelessness with little to no intervention. SPDAT also informs which areas in the person’s life could be the initial focus in the case management relationship to improve housing stability & how individuals and families are changing over time as a result of the case management process.

Day 3:
Re-Visioning Men’s Anger, Rage & Violence [Prerequisite: Day 2: Therapeutic
Engagement].
A one-day
training on trauma-informed engagement with men.
Re-Visioning
Men’s Anger, Rage & Violence is based on trauma-informed research examining
the links between male childhood abuse and intimate partner violence (IPV).
While many practitioners are aware that most men who are prone to rage and
partner violence have a significant history of childhood abuse, few
intervention programs are derived from this research and application.
This training
focuses on the clinical implications of adopting a trauma-oriented
understanding of IPV. We will fearlessly challenge the dominant discourse of
“power and control” model of understanding through comprehensive picture of the
inner world of men who are assaultive. Using a trauma lens, this training
arguably offers a more nuanced, more respectful and more promising approach to
clinical interventions with this population, whether through individual or
group intervention.
