In this workshop we will first look at the signs that
indicate that someone might be experiencing a mental health crisis and how to
recognize they may need some support. We will then explore active communication
skills that front-line workers can use to help de-escalate someone in crisis,
open safe conversations about stigmatized subjects, and deepen the relationship
and social support available to the person who is struggling. We will close
with a short discussion of front-line workers' mental health and the importance
of sustainable self-care when caring for individuals in crisis over the long
term.
